Do you love Durango? The Durango Business Improvement District is seeking friendly, outgoing, and knowledgeable people who love our community to serve as Downtown Ambassadors. We are looking for candidates with strong interpersonal skills, familiarity with our community, strong communication skills, and self-motivation. This is a seasonal, part-time position.
Roles and responsibilities
To provide assistance to visitors and locals in Downtown Durango. This can include assisting with directions, referrals to shops and restaurants, general information about Durango, and help with parking or parking meter questions. Ambassadors will represent and promote Downtown and North Main District businesses.
The goal of the program is to provide excellent customer service to visitors who come to Downtown Durango. Our mission is to make each visitor feel welcomed, provide accurate information, and enhance their visit in such a way that they will want to come back to Durango again.
Essential position functions:
Job Type:
Part-time seasonal position, summer months.
Required to work a minimum of 3 shifts a week. Walking shifts are 2.5 hours long (Mid-day, afternoon & evening). Kiosk Shifts are on weekends (Friday- Sunday). Shifts are approximately 4 hours long. (Stationary shifts outside the Train Depot) A chair and shade are provided for this shift. Mid-day shifts start @ 11 am; afternoon shifts start @ 1 pm; and late afternoon/evening shifts start @ 4 to 4:30 pm. Last shift ends no later than 7 to 7:30 pm
Schedule and hours are based on the employee’s availability. Weekend availability is a must. Hours can range from 8 to 12 hours per week. Additional hours are available. This is a great part-time job that can work with other employment commitments or be a supplemental income.
Teachers and students are encouraged to apply. We will accept applications from those who can only work part of the summer. (June-Mid-August) Orientation and training times will be adjusted to fit your school schedule.
We hire based on availability. We have the most shifts on weekends. Holidays for the Ambassador season include: Memorial Day Weekend (May 23-26), 4th of July Holiday Weekend (July 4-6), and Labor Day Weekend (August 29-September 1).
Job Location: Downtown Durango
Salary: $18 per hour for regular shifts and $20 for holiday shifts
Dress: Uniform shirt and hat provided
Requirement: Must have a smartphone and be able to use an iPad.
Orientation and Training: Ambassadors will complete orientation and training after hire. This will be over several days in May. Full information will be provided during the interview.
There is a 30-day trial period for all new hires.
