Kids can have loads of fun during 2025 Snowdown at 88 family-friendly events. Here are our top picks for family-friendly events for Snowdown 2025.
Friday, January 24
- Poetry Rhyming Game at Create Art and Tea, 11 am. Play the Poetry Rhyming Game, you can keep moving forward on the board with each rhyming word. The most rhymes win a free High Tea Party Ticket. All ages are welcome. (taking place every day of Snowdown)
- Live Action Hungry Hungry Hippos at the Durango Public Library, 3:30 pm. Play the larger-than-life version of the classic game of Hungry Hungry Hippos! For Ages 5-12.
- Twist and Shout at Union Social House, 6 pm. Play on our oversized Twister board as you twist and shout on the board. 40 participants will play 2 games of single elimination. All ages are welcome.
Saturday, January 25
- Bingo At The Bee’s at Applebee’s, noon. Family-friendly Bingo with a twist. Prizes for all games played. All ages are welcome.
- Puzzle Tournament at Guild House Games, noon. Grab a partner and play in this team competition. Teams can be 2 adults or an adult and a child. Must be 11+. Prizes will be awarded.
- Rollin’ For The Win: Giant Yahtzee at Sun Sapphires, 1 pm. Play a game of giant Yahtzee and test your luck and strategy as you use your dice-rolling expertise with oversized dice for a chance to win big! Everyone will play round one, with the highest-scoring players claiming the win for fantastic prizes. All ages are welcome. Prizes awarded.
- Paper Airplane Toss at Office Depot, 2 pm. Make and decorate your own paper airplane. Then, see who can fly the farthest. You will have three chances to fly your airplane for the best distance on the course. Participants will be divided into grade categories- Elementary, middle, and high school. An Adult must accompany each minor contestant.
- Snowdown Glow Climbing Night, Gravity Lab, 5 pm. Climb under the glow with a live DJ. Games and events will include a climber twister, a dyno competition, a costume contest, and more. This event is free to watch. Participants must purchase a day pass or have a membership to climb. The minimum age to climb is 4 years old. Under 14 must be accompanied by an adult. Sunday, January 26
- Ski Parade and Opening Ceremony at Purgy’s Patio at Purgatory Resort, 1 pm. It’s a Snowdown celebration with a parade down the “Hill” to pass the Snowdown Torch from 2024 to now. Come ski in costume, and you can join the parade! Gather at the Beach at 12:15 pm
- Hamster Derby Race at Creature Comforts, 1 pm. Get ready for the Hamster Derby! This event is open to all small pets that can travel safely in an exercise ball that is size appropriate for that pet. There is a suggested donation of $10 to participate. Sign up Here.
- Hopscotch at Gazpacho New Mexican Restaurant, 1 pm. This is the ultimate playground test of balance and aim. Do you have what it takes? It is perfect for kids and adults brave enough to relive their glory days. Entry is free, and prizes will be awarded.
Monday, January 27
- What’s In the Box Family Game Night at Lola’s Place, 4 pm. Enjoy a night out with your friends and family to enjoy food, drinks, and board games. Try one of the classic games or new release games with a board game expert to teach you. Test your game knowledge for prizes and guess the mystery items in the box for more chances to win! All ages are welcome.
- Pajama Party Night at EsoTerra Ciderworks, 6 pm.Get into your PJs and join us for a fun night. The evening will have family-friendly activities, including Scooby-Doo Cartoons, Ouija board, and more. There will also be a chance to build your own Mac N’ Cheese of your dreams. This is the ultimate slumber party, and you’re invited! All ages are welcome.
Tuesday, January 28
- 4 Klask Tournament at EsoTerra Ciderworks, 12 pm. Calling all players ages 10 to 110! Make your move in this Klask-tacular showdown! This is a magnetic tabletop game of skill, luck, and fun. Compete one-on-one in single elimination. Entry cost $5. Prizes awarded!
- Pokémon Club at Guild House Games, 3 pm. Learn to play Pokémon and trade with others. All ages and levels are welcome. Free entry.
Wednesday, January 29
- Button Making at the Durango Public Library, 4 pm. Create your own Snowdown flair. Create your own design, or choose one we have and create a button to take home. All supplies are provided. The cost is free. Fun for all ages.
- Dancing Board Game at Durango Dance, 5:30 pm. Enjoy a fun glow dance and obstacle course. All ages are welcome. One parent must stay with each group of children for this event.
Thursday, January 30
- Painting Party at Picasso & Vino, 3 pm. Paint your own commemorative 2025 Snowdown painting. Step-by-step instructions, no experience necessary. Prizes for the best costume. Register in advance. Ages 9 and older are welcome.
- Teen Live Action Clue at the Durango Public Library, 3:30 pm. Work with your friends to solve puzzles, gather clues, and figure out whodunit in a thrilling interactive experience. Registration is required, and space is limited. For Teens 13-17.
- Footdown & Bunny Hop Bike Contests at Lola’s Place at 4 pm. Do you have really good balance? Show off your balancing skills and compete to see if you can stay balanced on your bike. Whether you’re a seasoned rider or just have a competitive spirit, the event has something for everyone. Spectators welcome! The event will include music, live commentary, and lots of action. Helmets required. All ages.
Friday, January 31
- Snowdown Balloon Rally Mass Ascension, Hwy 550 and Hermosa Meadows Road, 8 a.m. Watch the beautiful display of hot air balloons launch in the early morning hours.
- Snowdown T-shirt Day- Downtown, All Day. Show off your official Snowdown themed shirt. Stop by Magpies for your button, hat, shirt and poster.
- In It To Win It at The Powerhouse at 3:30 pm- Bring your A-Game for a family-friendly event at the Powerhouse! Families will compete in a series of fast-paced “Minute to Win It” challenges with chances to win amazing Powerhouse prizes. Your entry fee includes pizza for the whole family. The entry cost for a team is $25, and for individuals, it is $7. Prizes awarded!
- Hand On The Van, outside Durango Coffee Company, 4:30 pm. Hosted by the Mayor’s Youth Advisory Commission. Open to ages 4-12. Hand on the Van is a Mr. Beast-inspired competition between kids to see who can keep their hand on a Durango Police car the longest. The last three kids will receive prizes! The cost is free.
- Spaghetti Diner at the Elks Lodge, 5 pm. Enjoy a spaghetti dinner at the Elks Lodge. This is a great option before or after the parade. Dinner includes Spaghetti, meatballs, salad, and bread. All ages are welcome. Entry cost is $10 for adults and $5 for Kids 10 and under.
- Snowdown Light Parade in Downtown Durango, 6 pm- The Snowdown Parade is Durango’s only evening parade where glamorous-themed, lighted floats create a dazzling display. The parade will be showcasing all sorts of Board games everyone enjoys. Learn more about the Snowdown Parade and parking information HERE.
- Chutes and Ladders Rail Jam at Chapman Hill, 6 pm. Show off your terrain park skills as you climb your way to the top of the podium. Awards will be given to the top male and female ski and snowboard athletes. Event cost is $25. Must be 11 or older to enter. Prizes awarded.
Saturday, February 1
- Kids Snow Games at Folsom Park, 10 am. Hosted by McDonalds, this epic Snowdown event includes a day full of hilarious challenges and fun games like tug-of-war, broomball, kickball, an obstacle course, and more. It is for children from 3 years up to 5th grade. The cost is free, and prizes will be awarded.
- Crash Course Derby at 11th Street Station, 11 am. A new kids-only event! This event features battery-operated Big Wheel cars driven by your kids as they travel through our demolition derby arena. This event is for kids 10 and under. The cost is free. Prizes will be awarded!
- Family Dance Party at the Durango Public Library, 11 am. Kids and families get ready for a Snowdown dance party at the library. Bring your crew, meet new friends, and hit the floor as we boogie the day away. For Children under 10 and their families. Entry cost is free.
- Canine Fashion Show at the McDonald’s parking lot, 1 pm. Calling all pups. Show off your pups at this hysterical fashion show. The categories are funniest, dressed alike, and Snowdown theme related. It's a howling good time! Canines of all ages are welcome, but please keep your leashes on. All ages are welcome. This event is free. Prizes awarded.
Sunday, February 2
- La Plata County Search and Rescue Pancake Breakfast and Silent Auction at La Plata County Fairgrounds. Enjoy a great breakfast and support La Plata County Search and Rescue. Volunteers will serve pancakes, eggs, ham, coffee, and juice. It’s all you can eat. Tickets are $10 for adults and $6 for kids (7-10), and tickets for 6 and under are free.
- Snowdown Balloon Rally Mass Ascension, HWY 550 Animas Valley, 8 am- This spectacular event features a beautiful display of colorful hot air balloons ascending in the early morning frost. Enjoy the beauty of seeing balloons climb skyward and float down the Animas Valley. The Saturday Mass Ascension will be held adjacent to the railroad tracks on HWY 550 N.
