Activities
Surrounded by beautiful mountains, rivers and lakes Durango is an outdoor playground that offers activities for everyone. Hike or mountain bike some of our amazing trails! Durango offers 300 miles of trails within 30 minutes of Downtown Durango, making it easy to access and enjoy. For those looking for a low key adventure, be sure to also check out our beautiful Animas River Trail that runs 8.5 miles through town along the Animas River. The Animas River Trail is completely paved and offers great sites to view along the way such as the Durango Fish Hatchery, Powerhouse Science Center and Santa Rita Park to name a few. For those looking for a little water time look no further. Durango offers many lakes and rivers with in a short drive of Downtown. Lake Nighthorse is a popular recreation spot for boating, kayaking, standup paddle boarding and fishing. Anglers will enjoy fishing the Animas River which runs right through town.
Attractions
Durango has several unique attractions in the area. Enjoy the beautiful sights of the San Juan National Forest on a ride on the Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad. This excursion is a breathtaking ride through the mountains alongside the beautiful Animas River up to the historic mining town of Silverton. Durango is lucky to have its own national park right in our back yard! Mesa Verde National Park entrance is a half hour away from Durango. Explore the history and sites of ancestral Pueblo people who made Mesa Verde their home for over 700 years.
