Information on closures related to the 2026 Snowdown Light Parade on Friday January 30

One of the largest annual events in Downtown Durango is the Snowdown Light Parade. This year's date is Friday, January 30, and the parade starts at 6 pm. Here is information on the street and parking closures.

Viewing Area: Main Avenue from 5th Street to 12th Street

 

First Aid / Lost Child Station: 7th & Main Avenue, one on east side, one on west side

 

Safety: La Plata County Office of Emergency Management has activated a new “Text To Keyword” feature of CodeRED, and the first test of this new feature will be for Snowdown. Attendees are strongly enoucraged to text SNOWDOWN to 24639 to be enrolled in a temporary CodeRED group. This allows communications to be sent via text for low-level emergency or important event-related information. Please consider signing up by texting SNOWDOWN to 24639

 

Getting there – Best Options

  • Free Direct Shuttle 3 pm to 9 pm from La Plata Country Fairgrounds to Transit Center
  • City of Durango Trolley and Transit buses are free from Wednesday 1/28 to Saturday 1/31.
  • City of Durango DuranGO is free from 5 pm to 2 am on Friday 1/30 and Saturday 1/31.
  • Walk or Bike from your house, business or closest transit stop
  • If travelling by car, note that Main Avenue begins closing at 2:30 pm.You can drive across Main Ave at College and 9th Street until 4:45 pm.

 

Parking Downtown Tips

  • Mind the Signs! If your meter or the ones next to it have No Parking Signs – don’t park there. You will get ticketed and towed.
  • All City parking lots and the Transit Center are open for parking and free after 5 pm.
  • The cross streets east and west from Main Avenue to the alleys are closed to through traffic across Main. However, parking is still allowed. Mind the signs – don’t park in a space with a No Parking Sign.

 

Road Closure Timing

  • 1:30 pm Parade Staging Route is closed. 500 block of Main + 5th Street from Main to 5th Ave.
  • 2:30 pm Main Avenue closed. Closure starts at 14th Street and progresses south to 5th street.
  • 2:30 pm Southbound Lane from Camino onto Main is closed at 14th street. Traffic can turn left at 15th Street or continue on Camino.
  • 3:30 pm Third Avenue / 15th Street Intersection – Left turn lane is closed. No left turn from 3rd Avenue onto 15th Street.
  • 4:45 pm College Drive and 9th Street are closed at the alleys.No crossing Main Avenue until after the parade is over.
