What inspired you to start your business?

In 2013 my daughter decided I could use some TLC. She sent me a gift certificate for visits to a float center in St. Louis, where I was living at the time. After two floats, I was hooked! I immediately signed up to float on the last Sunday of each month. These monthly floats helped me peacefully end one month and prepare for the next.

How did you wind up in Durango? What brought you here?

My mother, Carol Salomon, has lived in Durango for nearly 30 years and is very involved in the community, especially the arts. During my many visits to see her, I was struck by how welcoming, healthy, and mindful the people of Durango were. That-along with the town's charm and my desire to spend more time with my mom-convinced me to make Durango my home.

Tell us something interesting/fun about your business that the public might not know about.

While in our tanks, which have a state-of-the-art filtration system, clients float in approximately 12 inches of 95.5° water. That's the same temperature as human skin, so it's hard to tell where skin ends and water begins. Also, each tank contains 1000 pounds of Epsom salt, making the water roughly twice as salty as the Dead Sea and decreasing the effect of gravity on the body by 80 percent.

What's an interesting fact about your business most people don't know?

The study of floating's benefits began in the 1950s, and the first commercial float tank was created in 1972. Since then, floating's popularity and awareness of its numerous benefits have skyrocketed. In recent years floating has received endorsements from many celebrities, including well-known athletes, actors, and authors.
