Love Locals Week

BID has created a new spring promotion – a special Locals Week from May 1-10, 2026.Love Locals Week is all about driving sales at BID businesses by giving locals a reason to shop, dine, and explore. There are three primary components:

Heart of Durango Dollars Gift Card.

BOGO:

Buy One, Get One special on Heart of Durango Dollars digital gift cards. Locals can purchase a $100 Heart of Durango Dollars digital gift card and then will receive a free $50 gift card. The free card must be used within 30 days of receiving it, which encourages spending now. BID’s gift card is currently accepted at nearly 110 businesses.

Deals & Specials:

Businesses that accept BID’s Heart of Durango Dollars digital gift card can create a special offer for locals during this promotion. Offers can be simple, creative, and tailored to each business.

Events:

BID will create a list of events occurring every day of the promotion (May 1 to 10). BID businesses can create events at their location which can be included in Love Locals Week. Events already on the calendar include Trivia Nights, Spring Gallery Walk and the first Durango Farmers Market of the season, which will be on Main Ave.

Business Participation

Businesses that accept BID's gift card can participate by offering deals or specials or by offering a special event. Businesses wishing to participate need to sign up by April 17 to recieve all benefits of this promotion. If your business does not accept BID's gift card, now is the time to start! Deals and Specials

Provide a special deal or offer during the promotion and then afterwards until at least May 15. A special offer does not need to be too complicated. Make the offer fit the business model and be easy to understand. This is only for BID businesses that accept the Heart of Durango Dollars digital gift card, and only available to people who have a BID gfit card. If your business does not accept BID's giftcard, please contact Tanya to get your business set up to accept the card.

Businesses with a deal or special offer will be recognized and promoted in the following ways:

1. Listed on the Love Locals Week page on BID's website

2. All special offers will be available to all Heart of Durango Dollars digital gift card holders under the Special Offers section.

3. BID's social media will highlight businesses with a speical deal or offer. 

3. Marketing for Love Locals Week on various media formats to drive traffic to website including: radio, digital ads, print ads, posters and more. 

4. Marketing to all card holders about special offers and deals available. This will include a direct communication and newsletter to all past rewards participants. 

 

Host an event during the promotion (May 1-10)

Hosting a small event during the week can increase visibility and customer engagement. It doesn’t need to be elaborate — even a one-hour event can make a big impact. This could include regular, scheduled events with a twist or an extra promotion. Here are some ideas:

  2. Events will be highlighted as a "Love Locals Week" event on BID's event calendar. 
  3. Events will be highlighted through BID's social media posts
  4. Marketing for the promotion on various media formats to drive traffic to website including: radio, digital ads, print ads, posters and more. 
  5. Marketing to all card holders about the promotion. This will include a direct communication and newsletter to all past rewards participants. 

 

 

 

Help Promote

Participating businesses and event promotors are asked to do the following to help promote this week. 

1. Post an event poster starting the week prior to the promotion and the duration of the promotion.

2. Share BID's social media posts to help promote the event.

3. Tell your customers - share information about the promotion, encourage customers to purchase the Heart of Durango Dollars digital gift card to recieve a bonus card. BID will provide you with a table tent and poster for your business. 

4. Businesses are encouraged to share information about the promotion through their own networks. customer contacts, newsletters, social media.

5. Promote your offering! Run special ads, sidewalk signs, decorate your window to highlight this week and more.

What if my business doesn't currently accept the card?

The BID staff would be happy to get your business activated. If your business accepts Mastercard, you can take this card. There are no fees to sign up and the business recieves the full sale, there are no fees to take the card other then normal credit card fees. It will batch out with all your other credit card transactions on the same day.
