What inspired you to start your business?

I stumbled into selling baskets 35 years ago and that provided me with enough money to travel across the world and find beautiful artwork, that was my inspiration.

What is your business mission?

To bring a global culture to the South West Colorado region. We invite you to visit Durango Rug Company and take home memories that will last a lifetime.

What sets you apart from other businesses?

We carry the most unique selection of hand made rugs, baskets, pillows & textiles in Durango. We provide a unique open air market experience like no other in Durango.

How do you support the community?

Our shop dog named Scooby is always collecting donations for La Plata county humane society. We also host and participate in local charitable events.

What advice would you give to someone opening a new business in Durango?

Don't be afraid to take a chance. You only need to win once to get the ball rolling. :)

How do you keep your staff motivated?

I treat my staff fairly, pay them well, and take in their ideas for things to do around the shop and that seems to keep bringing them back.
