The Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad is back in full swing with trips departing daily from the Durango Depot.  Add this to your list of activities when you visit Durango! It will be the highlight of your visit!   

Winter Cascade Canyon Express 

Available from November through May

This round-trip excursion takes you to Cascade Canyon and offers fantastic views of the snowclad peaks and the Animas River. The trip is 26 miles each way and takes approximately 5 1/2 hours. The trip includes a 60-minute layover, which is a perfect time to have a fireside lunch, take a walk along the Animas River, and snap a few photos. 

This is excursion offers two train options Steam and Diesel trains.

Scenic Round-trip to Silverton Train

Available May 7-October 29. Excursions depart from the Durango Depot.

Two daily round-trip buses to Silverton from Downtown Durango. 

Take in all the views of the San Juan National Forest as you travel alongside the beautiful Animas Mountain on your way to the historic mining town of Silverton. This breathtaking adventure takes 3 1/2 hours each way. A stopover of 2 hours in the historic mining town of Silverton will allow you some time to shop, eat, and take in all the libations that Silverton has to offer.

There are two train options 

Steam Train departs at 9 am and arrives back in Durango at 6:15 pm (this includes two hours in Silverton) Dates: May 7 to October 29

Diesel Train departs at 8:15 am and arrives back in Durango at 5:30 pm (this includes two hours in Silverton). Dates: May 21 to Oct 15

Bus rides are also available! Take the train to Silverton and ride the bus back to Durango. 

Car options:

Family First Class- The first class car takes you back to early 20th Century Luxury. Amenities include: Onboard attendant, unlimited non alcoholic beverages, morning pastry, souvenir mug, and one tote bag per couple or group. Each car has unique seating, with most featuring table and chair seating. Some cars are limited to those 21 and over. 

Deluxe- offers upgraded seating options and amenities such as a souvenir tote bag. These cars feature flip-up seats, allowing you to face in the direction of travel or face your friends. 

Open Air Gondola-This car is open-air, allowing you to be closer to the sights and sounds on your adventure. Seats are bench-style, facing out towards the scenery. 

Vintage Coach-Seating in a heated car with windows that can open. Seating is traditional-style school bus-type seating. Seat width is equal to the industry standard of an economy class plane seat.

The Cascade Canyon Express is a fantastic way to see the iconic canyon views along the highline in just 5 hours.  This excursion allows you to see all the amazing scenery that takes you back into the wilderness that is inaccessible by any roads. 

Cascade Canyon Express Schedule: Depart Durango 9:30am and arrive back in Durango at 2:30pm

Car options:

Open Air Gondola- This car is open air allowing you to be closer to the sights and sounds on your adventure. Seats are a bench style seating that face out towards the scenery.
