DOWNTOWN DURANGO AND THE NORTH MAIN DISTRICT
CARE ABOUT THE HEALTH AND SAFETY OF OUR COMMUNITY
Downtown Durango and North Main District shops, restaurants, hotels, service providers and businesses are open for business, and are all taking extensive, diligent measures to provide a clean, safe and welcoming environment for customers.
The Durango Business Improvement District (BID) encourages everyone to follow the guidelines of public health officials at the local, state and national level, and high-risk populations especially should exercise extra precautions. Within the Durango City limits, there is a face coverings ordinance.

Here is some information for people visiting Durango from out of the area:
- Will we be required to quarantine? NO, but we do ask if you are experiencing any symptoms to self-isolate.
- What is open? Just about every business is open in Durango. Businesses are operating under new protocols to keep customers and employees safe, such as limits on the number of people in the business at one time, increased disinfecting, and employees wearing masks.
- Is there a mask ordinance and where are we required to wear them? Durango and the State of Colorado both have a mask order. Customers are required to wear a face covering when entering stores and restaurants. Once seated at your table for a meal, you can remove your face covering. When you are outside, its easiest to have your mask on. The City order says if you can be six feet away from others you do not have to wear a mask. However, sidewalks and intersections can get crowded in Downtown Durango. When you can’t stay six feet apart from others, put your mask on.
- Do we need to wear a mask while hiking, fishing, biking etc. No, as long as you can be six feet away from others not in your family, you do not have to wear a mask.
- What protocols are the hotels required to follow to ensure safety. Hotels have always been leaders in cleaning, it’s what they do all the time. All have stepped up their practices. Ask any property you are interested in staying at what their new procedures and protocols are for details.
- Is the train operating and will we need to wear a mask? The Train is operating! It currently has trips from the Rockwood Station north of Durango, to Cascade Station, and back. Round trip is just over two hours. There are no trips to Silverton currently due track damage from a rain event. You must provide your own transportation to and from Rockwood, and you must purchase a parking pass in advance. Face coverings are STONGLY ENCOURAGED while riding the Train, they will provide them for you if you do not have your own. If you have a medical condition that prevents you from wearing a face covering, special accomodations can be made. Find out more at DurangoTrain.com.
- Is Colorado turning away Texans? Colorado loves Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, the Midwest, and everywhere! No one is being turned away. We ask that visitors understand how different communities are operating and respect those local requirements.
