It’s the La Plata County Fair! Great Tips plus Events not to miss! (2025)

The La Plata County Fair is currently underway. The Fair lineup includes a variety of great events, concerts, 4H competitions, rodeo, games, food, and a whole lot more!

 Here are some tips to make your “Fair Experience” the best ever!

• Because the Fair offers SO much to see and do, we recommend that you plan to attend a couple of times over the week, especially if you have little kids. This way, you can experience all the Fair fun and exhaust your little crew in the process.
• Take the time to see the animals early in the week – everything from goats and chickens to rabbits and pigs – and award-winning beef cattle. If you visit the fair on Sunday to see the animals, go early, as they make their way to the 4-H Auction that afternoon.
•  For the kids, bring some quick sanitation wipes. This makes it easy to get their hands clean after seeing (and petting) all the fantastic Fair animals. Watch the little ones around the geese. They can bite!
• Tickets for the Demolition Derby do tend to sell out, but you can often get last-minute tickets on Saturday morning. The Derby will take place the following Saturday, on August 16, at Sky Ute Fairgrounds, 115 Goddard Avenue in Ignacio. Tickets are just $15.
• Parking is available at the High school. Alternative parking can be found close by. Quick tip: The Fairgrounds is located adjacent to the Animas River Trail. For hassle-free parking, consider parking up off 32^nd and taking a short walk along the river to get to the fairgrounds. The Fairgrounds is located between 24^th and 29^th Streets, on the east side of Main Ave. Consider taking the trolly or riding your bike to the fairgrounds.

9 am-8 pm - Exhibits Open to the Public

4 pm - Livestock Fashion Show- Pavilion

5 pm -  Fair Royalty Speeches and Modeling- Patio

7 pm- Talent Contest- Patio

Friday, August 8

9 am-8pm - Exhibits Open to the Public

9 am – Rabbit Show- Rabbit Barn

10 am-  Breeding Beef & Beef Showmanship- Pavilion

4 pm – Round Robin – Pavilion

7 PM – Firefall & Orleans Concert

Gates open at 5:30 pm. The Opening Act will start at 6 pm, and the Headliner will be on at 8 pm.  Tickets are on sale now. Ticket options are as follows: general admission is $30 (bring Camp Chairs), Grandstand Reserved tickets are $45 (Bleacher-style seating with protection from sun & rain), or VIP Reserved is $65, which are in front of the stage with no protection from sun & rain.

10 am- Rooster Crowing Contest - Which rooster will crow the loudest?

1-5 pm- Youth Carnival- South Baseball Field              

2 pm- Rabbit Costume Contest, - Rabbit Barn 

9 pm- 12 AM - Family Dance - on Patio. *cost is $5 per person at the door

 Sunday, August 10

9 am-1 pm Exhibits Open to the Public

11 AM – Catch – it Contest- Pavilion
