Seven Sips of Wisdom for the Durango Wine Experience!
The Durango Wine Experience is a favorite event for locals and out of towners. It’s also a great way to kick off the spring event season in Downtown Durango. This year’s event will be held Friday April 29 and Saturday April 30. There are two main parts of the Wine Experience:
·The Walkabout Friday night features wine tastings and food at 14 locations in Downtown Durango. Explore the wines, enjoy the food, and get to know some of Downtown Durango’s amazing businesses! 4 to 7 pm.
·The Grand Tasting Saturday afternoon is under the big tent on the beautiful grounds at the Smiley Building. There will be hundreds of wines, beers and spirits to sample. Plus an amazing collection of food from 10 local eateries, including 636 Main Ave (formerly Ken & Sue’s), Eolus, Old Tymer’s Café, the Ore House, Seasons Rotisserie and Grill, and The Roost. 3:30 to 6:30 pm.
1.First things first, tickets are sold in advance - Buy tickets at DurangoWine.com Tickets are expected to sell out soon so don’t wait too long!
2.You can buy a weekend pass, or you can buy individual tickets for the two main parts of the event. Buy the weekend pass for $150, which gets you in to the Walkabout Friday evening and the Grand Tasting on Saturday. Or you can buy just for one – a Walkabout ticket is $75 and a Grand Tasting ticket is $95. There are also tastings, dinners and educational events occurring at Downtown businesses, and tickets are sold separately for these. Learn more on the Wine Experience’s Events page.
3. Make a plan in advance for traveling to and from the Durango Wine Experience. Ride the trolley, reserve a rideshare, walk, ride a bike. If you must drive, make sure to have a designated driver. Watch Facebook or Instagram (see below) for info about free rides to the events.
4.Make a wine diary so that you will remember which wines were your favorites and why. This will come in handy after the event when you are talking to others and looking to upgrade your wine collection at one of our liquor store partners, Wagon Wheel or Durango Liquors. One way you can do this is to take photos on your phone of the labels from bottles you enjoy, then save them to an album for viewing later.
5. Visit a local restaurant after you are finished at the Durango Wine Experience events. Make plans to have a great dinner at one of the many amazing restaurants that we have in Durango. The restaurants will be happy to see you!
6.Follow Durango Wine Experience on Facebook & Instagram for last minute updates, and make sure to share your experience with us and others by using #DurangoWineExperience.
7.Remember that proceeds from your ticket purchase will go to the Community Foundation to support the vibrant nonprofit sector that makes Southwest Colorado a great place to work, play and live.
