The Durango Business Improvement District (BID) promotes events for locals and visitors in Downtown or the North Main District, or that bring business to those areas. BID utilizes the 

WhatsHappeningDurango.com calendar, which is embedded on BID’s main website DowntownDurango.org/events, our mobile-friendly microsite HeartOfDurango.com, and at the Kiosk in the Durango Welcome Center.  This calendar is also embedded on Visit Durango’s website at Durango.org/events and is available on many other websites as well. See the full list below. 

To take advantage of BID’s free marketing, events must be listed on the calendar we use: WhatsHappeningDurango.com.

WhatsHappeningDurango.com (WHD) is a local community calendar where event promoters can post their events, big or small, and update details and changes at any time. The WHD calendar is a great source for events, classes, happy hours, and specials in the local and surrounding areas.

 

To list an event, you will need to create an account with WhatsHappeningDurango.com. This will allow you to edit and update your events. All listings are free!

 

WhatsHappeningDurango.com is embedded on BID’s website at DowntownDurango.org/events and also on Visit Durango’s website at Durango.org/events. The popular event calendar is also on many other websites. See full list below. 

 

Once you add your listing to BID’s event calendar, you will be eligible for many benefits from BID.

Benefits

• Events will be listed on BID's website on the event calendar page;  on BID’s mobile-friendly micro-site HeartOfDurango.com; and on the seasonal events pages (see details section below for more info).
• Events will be considered for BID’s seasonal event marketing campaigns, published in summer, fall, and during the holidays. These campaigns include a seasonal poster or postcard that is distributed within the district and social media campaigns.
• Events will be considered for the center window monitors at the Durango Welcome Center the week of the event (see Details section below for more info).
• Events can be accessed on BID’s computer kiosk inside the Durango Welcome Center.
• Events will be considered for FREE PR opportunities that BID has year-round, including BID’s weekly E-newsletter sent to over 1,800 subscribers, BID's weekly social media posts, and considered for the event list provided at BID"s monthly meetings.
•  BID's Downtown Ambassadors will promote events listed on our calendar to visitors and locals during the summer months.

Durango Welcome Center Window

BID manages the center display window at the Durango Welcome Center in Downtown Durango and offers this space to promote events. Reservations for the window fill up quickly and are typically reserved a year in advance. BID prioritizes events located in Downtown and/or the North Main District that positively impact BID businesses. To be eligible for this space, events must be in Durango and listed on WhatshappeningDurango.com. Events will need to apply to be considered for this space. BID will hand-select events to be featured on Seasonal Event pages on BID’s website.

Promote Your Event on the Downtown Durango Blog

Hosting an event in Durango? Get extra exposure by featuring your event on the Downtown Durango blog.

Event organizers are invited to submit a short blog highlighting their upcoming event. A blog feature allows you to share more details than a standard calendar listing—such as special activities, performers, unique experiences, and what attendees can expect. See our blog page HERE for a sample of past blogs we have published.

To submit a blog, please include:

• Event name, date, and location

• A short description (300–600 words)

• Event highlights or special features

• Ticket or registration information

• A website link for more details

• High-quality photos or graphics

Selected submissions will be featured on DowntownDurango.org and may also be highlighted through our social media and promotional channels.

Please submit your blog 2–3 weeks prior to your event to allow time for review and scheduling.
