BID/DATO Marketing Grant Review & Criteria for Award (2009)
The Durango Business Improvement District offers two categories of special event marketing grants to enable event sponsors to expand their marketing reach and attract more participants to downtown and north Main Avenue in Durango, CO.
A “signature event” is a Durango special event that enhances and supports the Durango brand, including appeal to out of town visitors and increased business for the District. See BID grant over for list of previously funded “signature events”.

To qualify for the marketing grants, organizations must have:
- A proven track record, with a marketing plan & budget
- A strong financial plan and supporting group of volunteers
- Ability to be flexible with event scheduling, with focus on “off season” or shoulder seasons in Durango.
- A commitment to promoting the event to maximize use of Durango hotels, restaurants, and retail establishments located in the District.
- Ability to match BID grant monies with strong “non-BID” sponsorship and/or corporate funding for marketing special event.
The Durango BID and the Durango Area Tourism Office are the funding sponsors of the Special Event marketing grant program. Applications must be submitted in advance of the event and they will be reviewed as they are received. Previous funding is no guarantee of future funding of BID grant applications.
The Business Improvement District marketing grant funds may only be used as per the BID/DATO Grant Criteria and as pre-approved by the Board. The Board reserves the right to not reimburse marketing expenses deemed to not be in the best interests of the Board or reimbursements that are not allowable under BID grant guidelines.
