The plan will define the critical issues, opportunities and constraints
associated with streetscape design concepts for downtown streets including
Main Avenue, Second Avenue and Camino Del Rio. The consultant team will
review existing street right-of-way design criteria, including street
pavement widths, on-street parking design criteria, pedestrian crossing
and sidewalk widths, street-light fixtures, streetscape and public transit
amenities, set-back and alleyway design criteria. The streetscape design
criteria will address specific areas of concern, as well as the opportunities
that are identified in previous sub-tasks. A narrative and graphic–oriented
draft report will be developed that outlines key considerations for the
Study Area that reflects the input provided by City Public Works, Engineering
and Planning staff and Focus Group input.
The input gathered is to be consolidated into a streetscape design matrix
that defines urban design standards for public rights-of-way in the Study
Area. The design matrix will establish minimum standards for sidewalks,
pathways, alleyways, setbacks for building facades, landscape buffer areas
between vehicle travel lanes or buildings, streetscape amenities, signage,
seating areas, public transit, bicycle parking considerations and other
street characteristics and amenities.
